Common Mode Coil Filter Inductor, also known as common mode inductor, is an electronic component used to suppress common mode interference and is widely used in the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design of various electronic devices. It consists of a magnetic core and two or more coils wound on the core. The two sets of coils have equal number of turns and are wound in opposite directions, and this structural design makes them present different impedance characteristics for common mode signals and differential mode signals.
In circuit operation, the normal differential mode signal current in the two groups of coils in the opposite direction of the magnetic field generated, offset each other, so the common mode inductance of the differential mode signal presents a lower impedance, the differential mode signal can pass through smoothly. The common-mode interference signal current in the two groups of coils in the same direction of the magnetic field, superimposed on each other, so that the common-mode inductance of the common-mode signal presents a higher impedance, thus effectively inhibiting the transmission of common-mode interference signals in the circuit.

1. Unique Magnetic Circuit Characteristics: Based on its special coil winding method, Common Mode Coil Filter Inductor is able to effectively differentiate between common mode signals and differential mode signals in its magnetic circuit design. When common mode current passes through, the magnetic fluxes in the core are superimposed on each other and the permeability is higher, thus generating larger inductance and impedance and suppressing common mode signals. For differential mode currents, the fluxes cancel each other out, the permeability is lower, the inductance and impedance are smaller, and the effect on the differential mode signal is smaller.
2. Significant frequency characteristics: the impedance of Common Mode Coil Filter Inductor changes with frequency. In the low-frequency band, Common Mode Coil Filter Inductor's ability to suppress common mode interference is relatively weak; as the frequency rises, its impedance increases rapidly, and the suppression effect on common mode interference is significantly enhanced.
